I am no longer proactively pursuing music.
As I am able to provide a contribution to our service men and women, I will continue to play my guitar as a solo act or in special situations, put a small group together, but but only to make a difference in the lives of service members , veterans and their families.
In this current climate and over the 40 some odd years I have pursued music as an expressive art, I have finally come to terms with the fact that 95% of those seriously involved in music, apply a mediocre standard of participation. From wanting to be a "rock star"; to being late for rehearsals; to not having music prepared at the level that represents respect for the composer or other musicians. This and so much more I have endured being involved with classical music around the world, to jazz music in the classroom, to rock music, to musical theater, to dance. I have done them all with top tiered musical organizations and personnel and my conclusion holds true in general; "we are a culture of mediocrity with an apathetic approach to citizenship."
I will now pursue film-making and use it as my means of artistic expression. I realize that there will be mediocrity in this field as well. However, the external forces that can effect the creative process is not as pronounced. Most important, I can perhaps deal with this mediocrity because I am so excited to let go of the "music" that has held me hostage with hope for so long.
